HCRT Mission

Home and Community Recreation Therapy is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through participation in goal focused and healthy recreation participation. HCRT specializes in providing services to individuals in their own home and community. HCRT believes that RT is most efficient when it is provided in a practical, real-life setting that puts the client’s interests, needs, schedule and functional skills as the priority. Therapy is outcome focused and aims to get people off the sidelines and back into life.

Research shows that an active, satisfying lifestyle leads to greater health and happiness and that’s especially true for people with disabilities. HCRT incorporates our clients’ interests, support networks and pre-injury lifestyles to better engage them in therapy and achieve functional improvements. HCRT Philosophy

HCRT embodies 3 key philosophies as the core principles of how we provide care:

We recognize the significance that recreation and leisure play in life. Recreation is part of what defines a person, with or without a disability. Healthy recreation participation helps us all become physically fit, well adjusted, happy, cognitively stimulated and an active part of the community.

We believe that providing therapy in clients’ real environments enables greater healing and improved carryover and outcomes. The goal is for our clients to become active and productive in their own homes and communities, so that is where we treat them. This approach will allow them to continue their skills and activities long after we leave. We serve most geographic regions in the lower peninsula of Michigan and will travel directly to the clients’ homes.

We believe in providing customized, one-to-one care. Each client has a different injury as well as different interests, deficits, and needs. We work with each client individually to design their treatment plan around his/her environments, interests, and personal goals.

Our goal is to provide state-of-the-art, unique, client focused care. We are flexible and creative in providing care which assists our clients to find their way back to a healthy and productive life.
