Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
Jessica received a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Therapeutic Recreation and Child Development in May 2016, after completing two internships. Her first internship took place at a therapeutic horseback riding clinic, working with children with development disability, utilizing equine-assisted therapy and hippotherapy. Her second internship took place at Willowbrook Rehabilitation Center working with individuals with traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. She completed her Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification in January 2017.
Jessica’s first professional job was at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans where she developed a passion for community reintegration and individuals with behavioral health problems – she worked there for 2 years before taking some time off. She returned to Recreation Therapy in 2020, where she worked at The Behavioral Center of Michigan, a short-term inpatient psychiatric facility. Jessica worked there for about 5 years, starting as a CTRS and was promoted to department supervisor after about 1 year. In May 2024, she completed her Master of Health Administration degree from Central Michigan University. In March 2025, Jessica and her husband had their fist child, which led to her leaving her position at the psychiatric hospital and starting with HCRT.
Jessica has had opportunities to work with a variety of populations over the years, including TBIs, SCIs, behavioral and mental health, developmental disabilities, veterans, geriatrics, and substance abuse. She loves to learn new things and try new leisure activities with her clients in home and in the community. Jessica values having a balance in “work and play” and encourages this with her clients. In addition, she has professional passions in the areas of quality improvement and risk management.
In Jessica’s free time, client loves to spend time with her husband, son, and dog, as well as the rest of her family. She loves to be outdoors, including golfing and camping, and she also loves to cook, go bowling, travel, play cards, be creative, and eat ice cream.
